1- A Social Media strategy requires a vision and a plan

2- The conductor needs the orchestra

Your content needs to engage your audience and pass the “re-share” test. If you write great stuff, it will be re-shared.

You could always have the potential to reach new audiences and get more followers, even if you have 10 million followers like Guy does (but I would guess that neither of us does). You should share good stuff and you should embrace new platforms.

You should also rely on tools to facilitate and automate the process. From a publication calendar to applications like Hootsuite to organize your social media plan, schedule posts and manage different the different social media platforms from a single dashboard.

3- Communication is essential

Like in the AT&T Wireless Bigger is Better Commercial, Guy and Peg pose a question: Would you rather have 1,300 clicks or 7,600?

  • Be active and share three to twenty different, unique posts per day. In addition, repeat your posts three or four times with different headlines at varying times of the day.
  • Respond to comments, be positive and apply the 3-round rule. Commenter Comment > Your Response >  Commenter responds to the response. The End
  • Add drama – Curate and enhance your posts. Every post should have a picture or a video. If you write great stuff, you should not be shy and you should get people to notice your social-media posts.

4- Remove the barriers, make it easy for all people

The easier people can interact with your content, whether it is a blog, a Google+ Hangout, a conference or a book launch, the better it is for you to reach your audience .

  • Create short, evergreen, memorable hashtag for your events, share them and ask people to use them. Ideally, the hashtag will have life beyond the event.
  • Add ClicktoTweet or CoSchedule to your blog posts with suggested tweets from your article, the reader can edit it or tweet it as-is.
  • Integrate social media and blogging, making it easy for your audience to share your posts.

5- Do not delegate your social media

Let’s face it. You are the most qualified person to define your brand. you should not have to hire an Agency to manage your social media. You may also be tempted to get an intern to take care of your social media, after all, they are part of the social media generation. Their advice: please don’t do it.
